It’s a beautiful morning

It’s a new week and I’ve decided I’m going to take on a new look at Monday. Yes I said that nasty word. My oldest child came down with the flu this morning and my knee is hurting me a lot today. Despite this, I refuse to be ungrateful for the day. It is so easy to look at the bad in your life and decide you’re having a bad day, month, year, life, ect. In truth, that is a very small part of your day or life. When you choose to look at your blessings instead, your outlook on your life will change. Hand your worries, your struggles and your pain over to God. Hit your knees and pray. A year ago if you would have asked me if I would be where I am today, I would have said not a chance.  My husband and I had filed for divorce, tension in our home was unbearable,  and our kids were miserable. It took a friend of ours forcing my husband into counseling, which I joined to help him, actually ended up saving our marriage. We were in the hands of a christian woman who wasn’t going to give up on us. At first it began with being assigned books to read, then it grew into us doing daily bible study together. Which grew into me beginning to blog so I could put what I was feeling into words. Eventually it grew into me writing my own scripture writing and bible studies, but most importantly it led to us finding a church to call home. During this journey I was led to branch out and start up my craft business, after a few months I have found my items that keep my order book full and it’s helped me to pay for Christmas this year. Christmas hasn’t been paid for with my paycheck in 8 years now (since our daughter was born). My husband also left the job he’s been at for several years, taking a few months off to stay home with us and help me get the business off the ground. Immediately after him leaving his job our marriage really shifted, he became more involved in our home and with the kids. He took a job doing what he loves and now we can’t imagine life any other way. It took a lot of praying, digging deep and soul searching, many tears, heart ache and more, but this past year I wouldn’t change for anything. I have my husband and best friend back, the man who I love to laugh with and spend every moment with. My kids are so happy and thriving, and they love going to Sunday School.  God doesn’t promise life will be easy, but he does promise he will be there with you through it all. As learned last week in the scripture writing, we are wonderfully made by a faithful God. We all have a special purpose, and we should be thankful under all circumstances.

This weeks Scripture Writing will be focused more on Moms.

December Study

This month I’m going to try something new. I’ve done weekly writing and reading plans so they can be used as a short study. I will post the plans at the beginning of the week and closer to the end of the week I will write a short recap over that plan. The focus of these will be for the different roles in your life, geared more towards women but if there is any men that would like this I would gladly do a plan for men too.

Week ones plan is focused on being a Godly Woman. This week is for the 1st through the 9th ( I apologize for being a day late).

The writing plan:
1st- Romans 8:28
2nd- Romans 8:38-39
3rd- Matthew 6:33
4th- Hebrews 13:2
5th- 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
6th-Psalms 139:14
7th- Proverbs 21:21
8th- Job 22:21
9th-Luke 16:10

The reading passage is Proverbs 31

I hope you enjoy these scriptures and I look forward to reflecting on these at the end of the week.

Surround yourself

I sat here staring at this screen for far too long today, trying to decide what direction I was going to go in.  Same thing happens when I try to write a prayer for my family today. I know the general direction I want to go with it, but the actual journey just isn’t happening for me at the moment. I could take the easy way and just say forget it and walk away for the day. How how easy that would be, I could just go read a book or watch some tv. But I’m also leaving a crack open so Satan himself can slip in and much like this fly that keeps bouncing off my face, he is relentless and is waiting for that moment. Instead I reached out to someone, she’s also my accountability person. Did I do my daily writing, did I finish the daily bible reading (we are doing a 52 week plan to read the bible, so you don’t want to fall behind).
It’s important to surround yourself with people who support your journey with Christ. Who will battle with you when you need it and you will go to battle for. When my office moved downstairs much of my “War Room” didn’t make the journey. Leaving a desk upstairs in the corner that became a catch all. Yesterday, I decided it was time to take my War Room, or corner in my case, back. It’s time to fill my desk and wall back up with my battle plan.  I encourage everyone to do this, even if you don’t have an entire room to set aside for this. Find a area that you can comfortably sit and spend time with God, clear out any distractions. Turn off the tv, your phone, social media. Focus and meditate on what God is trying to tell you. If you need help getting started or you need a little help during your journey, call out to that accountability partner. We should all be supporting and helping each other. If you don’t have someone you can reach out to please feel free to contact me at familynfaithblog@gmail.com anytime. I’m always happy to help.

God Bless

Searching for peace

This past week has been like I was stuck in a whirlwind. Going non -stop, lots of chaos and at times afraid of whiplash. I’m also glad that last week I began evaluating areas of my business I could approve, what I need to let go and how to change things for the better. I chose the three things that are my main sellers and I’m sticking with them. This has also meant trying to organize and have a sale for all the other things I’m doing away with. So I’ve been sorting clothing and jewelry, marking them down and trying to get them posted. At the same time I’ve had new items coming in and new custom orders. I was already overwhelmed, and then I started noticing some questions business ethics in a few people I deal with and that seemed to be what broke the dam. I was tired, overwhelmed, frustrated and at some points seeing red.
I wanted to yell and complain that this just isn’t fair and how dare they. Thankfully I hadn’t finished up my bible reading for the night yet and I came across what I needed to hear.  A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to ones glory to overlook an offense. (Proverbs 19:11) Now I could lash out at them, I could argue until I was blue in the face but that won’t solve any problems. I needed to remember why I started this journey and how it led me to my business.
When I started this journey, it was just this blog. Then I realized I can reach even more by opening up my shop. Maybe this all had to happen to get my focus back where it belonged. If I can spread God’s word and love for us through this blog, I know I can through my shop as well. You cannot have faith sometimes and just hope for the best, disappointment will rear its ugly head quickly and I promise you that. Instead we need to always have faith, God has a plan for us and if we listen we can figure out what that plan is. For the longest time I never thought I would find what I wanted to do with my life, was I really only ever going to be mom? I felt it deep down that I knew there was something else I was also supposed to do. It wasn’t until my life started falling apart that I picked the bible back up and began reading, studying, writing and praying. Along the way it has led me to the journey I’m on now, and when I think of my “job” I’m happy. I love to create and write, it’s very natural to me. Add spreading the word of God to that, well that’s what I call peace. I feel peace because I know I’m being guided by God, and just like I have faith in him, he also believes in me. He knows I am special, just like each one of you are.

So I encourage you today, have that talk with God if you feel lost. Ask him for guidance, pray and really focus on his word. I myself will pray that all of you find your sense of peace and find your way.

God Bless!

Elsa struck again

Now that things have settled down a little since the ice storm that caused all kinds of problems, I feel like I’m somewhat falling back into my routine. Thanks to no power, trees down on our house, and cleaning up the mess left behind, it’s safe to say I’m way behind on everything. My nose also felt like this would be prime time to not let me breathe. I could have let the events of this week put me in a foul mood, throw a fit and give up. While I haven’t had the best attitude, (fevers tend to bring out my ugly side), I would rather focus on the blessings through this. My family is safe, our vehicles and home weren’t damaged, the trees can be cut down safely. Our power came back on after 18 hours, and because we have food to eat and clothes to wear I had lovely piles to clean. It’s how you look at things in life determines how happy you will be. If you continually focus and look for the bad in the situations then your life, well, its going to be bad. However, look at the good that comes out of it. If God brings you to it, he will bring you through it. You just have to focus on the right things to see this. So this weekend I hope to finish up the book I’m reviewing, catch up on Bible study and Book Club.

Bible Study:
We will do session two recap on the 28th. I think is pushing things back but with the weather last week and the aftermath this week I am way behind. Feel free to go on ahead though if you’d like and you can check in on the recaps when they are posted.

Book Club:
Chapters 15-21 will be posted the 28th as well. I find it really hard to put this book down, but I do have other things I need to catch up on as well so I will.

To my followers,
I want to say thank you. When I started this I never thought I would have any followers let alone reaching as far as I have. My hope is to help others grow in Christ and know that no matter the circumstances you always have his love. Along the way if I can help in other areas of your life as well then I am thankful for that. Please know if you ever need someone to listen and talk to you can reach out to me, familynfaithblog@gmail.com

God Bless, and have a safe weekend.

New Year, Better you

This time of year I often hear people setting their New Years resolutions, and it has really made me think this year.
Some of the more common I have heard:
*I’m going to lose x amount of weight
* I’m going to eat better
*I’ll go to the gym
*I won’t drink so much
*I’m giving up pop
The list just continues to go on, but one thing I’ve realized is I never hear, I will grow closer to God. I will read my bible everyday, I will pray every day. Most people I’m sure would say they could improve their relationship with the Lord somehow. I’m not saying you should make these your New Years resolutions, lets face it most of those are forgotten about in a week. Instead make a promise. Sit down and pray for guidance, let God lead you to what you need to do to grow closer to him. I personally do have my favorites, and maybe they can help inspire you too.

1. Bible Reading:
I find it relaxing to sit down with a cup of coffee and my Bible. What better way to become closer to the Lord than by reading the book that is here to Guide you through everything in Life! I also prefer to have more than one version with me when reading. I like to read the NIV Bible, but when something sticks out to me I also go and re-read it in my KJV. I mark scripture in both bibles and write little notes. Even if it’s just a few minutes a day, pick up your bible, I bet it makes your day better too.

2. Bible Study:
You can participate in a Bible Study in many ways. There are often groups available at your church, you can order individual studies, or you can participate in online studies. The current Bible Study I’m doing is the book of Ephesians, however next week we will start the Present over Perfect study, this is a dvd/study guide package. If you would like to join us you can go to my home page for the link to purchase this. I try to keep the studies affordable, and will bounce between ordering materials or picking a book in the bible and studying it daily.

3. Reading:
I love to read, which is also why I offer reviews on here. I read a lot of Christian books that are Fiction, Lifestyle books, Parenting, Marriage, and family books. Tony Evans, Pricilla Shirer, and Stormie Omartian  are a few of my favorites when it comes to Christian marriage, parenting and family books. My husband and I have recently started the Kingdom series by Tony Evans. We have the couples devotional, Kingdom Man and Woman, Raising Kingdom Kids and The Resolutions for both Men and Women. I will admit this is also why I haven’t been putting out reviews almost daily, I am currently reading at least 2 books at a time. For those of you that travel for work, I would suggest getting audio books to listen to in the car.

4. Devotionals
A daily devotional is a great way to get the good word and doesn’t take much time. If you are married I would suggest a couples devotional. We really like the Kingdom Marriage, it has a  very short daily passage and then follows up with 3 questions for you and your spouse to answer. Quiet times for couples is another favorite of ours, and we recently received the Love Dare devotional so we are excited to begin that one too. My husband enjoys the Duck Commander devotional and my daughter likes her 3 Minute Devotional for little girls. I personally use the Daily Wisdom for Women everyday in addition to my couples devotionals.

My point is that there isn’t one set way to do a little more. Without my faith I’m not sure how I would have gotten through the holidays. I used to shut down when grieving. I’m not saying that the depression didn’t creep in and make me want to crawl in a hole, it did. But I prayed, over and over, for strength and peace. I knew I needed to be there for others as well and we needed to lean on each other. My husband played a big roll in helping me through it. He dropped everything and stayed with me, he prayed with me, and was there when I needed to just cry.  1 Corinthians 13:2 really stood out to me ( If I have the gift of prophesy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. ) Without love you truly have nothing, and one thing that I realized I am truly blessed with is the ability to love so many people and have so many people who love me. Love and the Lord  is what got me through the holidays this year. If that’s not blessed then I don’t know what is.

God Bless and travel safely home!

Book Club/Bible Study Particpants

I am in the process of setting up a private chat room. This will give us the ability to come together and discuss both the book club and bible study. I may end up starting a second room so that we can keep them separate but for this first go around we will see how it starts out. You will need a password to gain access to this room. Please email me at familynfaithblog@gmail.com to get this password, in this email you simply need to state if you are apart of the book club and/or the bible study. The link to the chat room is <iframe src=”https://chatstep.com/#FamilynFaith” width=”500″ height=”500″>

Thank you and God Bless!

Struggles and Prayers

I originally planned on writing about christian families and how you can grow in your faith together. But the last few days have been a struggle for myself and my family. In these moments it is easy to become angry towards God, although I have been angry its more at the situation. I find that at these times it is best to pick up your bible. People often complain there is no guide to life, yet right there in front of us there is. The Bible has the answers, you just need to pick it up. Not sure how to pray? Use the scripture to guide you. Spend time everyday studying your bible. I spend time everyday with my devotional, using both my KJV and NIV Bible to dive a little further into that scripture, a daily scripture study, weekly bible study and reading a christian based book (which you can usually find my reviews for on here also). When life becomes too much to handle, and you feel like you have lost it all, turn to God and pray. He will see you through it, it may not be how you want or expect but he will see you through it, you just need to have faith in him. So today as I pray for comfort and guidance for my family, I will also pray for all of you. I pray that you will find comfort in the Lord, and be open to his guidance, that we fulfill the destiny he has set for us all.

*Just a little sidenote on today: I will be receiving the bible study materials for Present over Perfect by tomorrow hopefully and will begin preparing for this study. I truly hope you all are able to join us in this study. There is a link on the homepage that provides a source you can purchase this. I’m excited to start this one!
I also will be receiving an autographed copy of a popular new book that has recently come out, I cannot wait to read it, post a review and it will also possibly be one of our next studies!

*Thank you for joining me today and God Bless*

Ephesians

December 15th-December 31st

All you will need is your Bible for this one. We will be studying the book of Ephesians. I chose Ephesians because this is one book of my bible that has marks all over. I have things highlighted, notes written down, things underlined, all sorts of things. If you don’t have a Bible Journal or a Prayer Journal I would encourage you to get one. This doesn’t have to be anything fancy, I picked my Journal up at Wal-Mart for a few dollars and used a notebook before this. I courage creativity in both your Bible and your journal, find what helps you learn best.

For this study we are going to use the SOAP structure. Each day I encourage you to do this in your Journal as you are reading through the Book of Ephesians.

Scripture- Write down a verse that sticks out at you.
Observation- Why was it interesting? What did you learn? What is God saying to you?
Application- How can you apply it to your life? How will it change you?
Prayer- Respond to God in Prayer, use the scripture as a a guide. Ask God to help you meditate on this and apply it.

Some other things you may find useful:
-Starting with Prayer
-Who are the key people?
-What are the Key Words?

Feel free to share your daily journal, but don’t feel obligated to!
