Koolaid and Judgment

I’ve started this post at least 4 different times today, unsure of what I wanted to write. It wasn’t until I became bombarded for allowing my 8 year old to have red hair that something really stood out to me. I was born in the 80’s so growing up I did the koolaid hair coloring and sun in. Not really sure why I did the sun in considering I was already blonde but hey everyone else was smelling like a lemon so I decided to join them apparently. So when my 8 year old began begging for me to color her beautiful blonde hair I pulled out my childhood less damaging option. Also being a female myself I remember how indecisive I was at her age and that once the color went out she may actually decide she wanted a different, so temporary was a much better option for us. There also isn’t the chance of burning her scalp or the allergic reaction like with a hair dye. The biggest concern seemed to be “what if it doesn’t wash out quickly?” Well for one I hope it doesn’t because it did take a while to do and that would be a waste if it washed out the next day.  You can also use a vinegar/baking soda rinse and it should help lift the color.

My thing is its just hair, so why does anyone else feel like they need to ruin what has made my child extremely happy. It in no way was bringing harm to her, so why does it really matter? Especially to people who don’t even personally know me they just follow my business page. It may not be for everyone, I get that, so don’t do it or let your children do it. But it has absolutely no impact on your life so why not just scroll on past? Have we become a society that is so desperate for drama and entertainment that we consistently have to create it and attack others? I truly do not understand this, I live by the not my body or doing harm to someone else then it’s none of my business. It may not be my thing, but it doesn’t mean I won’t support that person in doing what is making them happy.

So if you’d like to try out the Koolaid Hair Dye all you have to do is mix 2 Cups Water with 2 Unsweetened Koolaid packets. Mix them in a saucepan and bring it to a boil. Once those cool pour into a glass or bowl so you can dip the hair for a few minutes. Let your hair completely dry before you try to rinse it otherwise the color isn’t going to stay well. I’ve heard you can also mix the Koolaid with conditioner and rub it in like a cream but it’s not something I’ve ever tried so I can’t tell you how well that works.

What non hair dye ways have you colored your hair? Let me know in the comments!

God Bless!

The Homeschooling Adventure

I’m not the type to jump off a cliff and I hope I fly, I’m the research thoroughly and make a well thought out decision type. So when we decided to pull my daughter from public school and begin homeschooling all within three days my anxiety was through the roof. I’ve never looked at homeschooling before, where do I find what I need? I spent day and night researching and trying to find the right fit for my daughter. If you are looking at beginning this same adventure please keep something in mind, its a learning experience. The first, second or even third curriculum you choose may not work for your child. Be willing to change your method, you may also need something different for each child.

Here are a few places that I have used to make up our curriculum:
*Please note I am not affiliated with any of these or being compensated for sharing their information*

time4learning– We initially started with time4learning, and while I really liked it, my daughter however did not. This is a full curriculum, that can be used on a computer or tablet. As a parent you can control their lessons, view their grades, print worksheets and much more. My daughter (3rd grade) found it hard to actually grasp what they were teaching though, and they will continue to move on even if they don’t understand it. That was a downside for me.

Acellus- After switching to Acellus things became much smoother. We love this curriculum, they have actual teachers doing video lessons for each new concept. After choosing your 6 courses they will do a placement test so you know what grade level you need to begin at. I did also read it is possible to adjust your lessons, we however didn’t need to do this so I haven’t looked into this yet. With this program they do all the grading for you and it will let your kids know how many lessons they need to complete to stay on track.

teacherspayteachers-This is a great resource for worksheets, banners, busy work and much more. These have all been developed by teachers and are printable. Some of these are free and some have a small fee.

Christianbook.com- Quite a bit of our curriculum for next year was ordered from this website. We will also be homeschooling our boys next year mixing workbooks and online courses. There is several full curriculum’s available but its also possible to mix and match. They also have many other classroom resources available as well.  You can usually find free shipping coupons as well, and they regularly have sales.

Dollar Tree– Aside from a major money saving option, Dollar Tree has a large variety of options that work great for busy work. From math fact books to science and social studies lessons. They have classroom resources, school supplies, organization supplies, and the list goes on.

Pinterest-if you simply type in Homeschool, you are going to get a large list of things you can use. I’ve found planners, unit studies, posters, fun projects and much more. I find myself weekly looking for new things we can do on Pinterest.

What’s your favorite homeschooling resources? If you have any questions please feel free to ask, I will do my best to answer or point you in the right direction.

1, 2, 3….let’s hibernate

Woke up this morning to school being delayed and visibility being really low.  I laid in bed for another hour waking up to everything being calm, barely any snow at all on the ground. I don’t do cold, I’m more of the hibernate during winter kind of person. Which also makes being motivated pretty much non existent. It takes me forever to actually begin working, I mean it’s not like I’m going to fire myself!

So I realized maybe I need to begin making an actual plan. I’m a planner or a list maker. I feel like it keeps me organized and on track, so why am I not implementing this in my business? So I grabbed my life line aka my planner and decided it’s time to start scheduling my days. I use my planner all day everyday, its what I use to keep my orders in. On the monthly calendar I write my appointments, the verse I’m supposed to scripture write for the day, my kids school things, and other important things I need to get done that month. Then I have weekly pages that have individual days schedules. This is where I write my orders, because I know how many orders I can complete in a weeks time.  It also helps me know how far out my wait list currently is. I began writing in exercise (boy have a slacked here in the last few months), my daily studies, blog work, and my water intake. I seem to stick to things better when I can do them and cross them off a list, it somehow motivates me oddly enough. Maybe its the organization of it, makes you feel like you kind of have your stuff together.

I have without a doubt been more successful when I actually operate on a routine and stick to a schedule. I’m actually productive instead of just being busy. I also find that when I’m exercising in the morning some of my best ideas hit me. Maybe it’s because I’m at peace and not so stressed, or because that is often my alone time I spend really talking to God. It helps me to remember who is responsible for my success, without God I know I wouldn’t be where I am. I wouldn’t be doing what I love, and have the opportunity to share his glory with others. So as much as I really want to hibernate, instead I will stick to my schedule and continue to thank the good lord for providing this opportunity for me.

It’s a beautiful morning

It’s a new week and I’ve decided I’m going to take on a new look at Monday. Yes I said that nasty word. My oldest child came down with the flu this morning and my knee is hurting me a lot today. Despite this, I refuse to be ungrateful for the day. It is so easy to look at the bad in your life and decide you’re having a bad day, month, year, life, ect. In truth, that is a very small part of your day or life. When you choose to look at your blessings instead, your outlook on your life will change. Hand your worries, your struggles and your pain over to God. Hit your knees and pray. A year ago if you would have asked me if I would be where I am today, I would have said not a chance.  My husband and I had filed for divorce, tension in our home was unbearable,  and our kids were miserable. It took a friend of ours forcing my husband into counseling, which I joined to help him, actually ended up saving our marriage. We were in the hands of a christian woman who wasn’t going to give up on us. At first it began with being assigned books to read, then it grew into us doing daily bible study together. Which grew into me beginning to blog so I could put what I was feeling into words. Eventually it grew into me writing my own scripture writing and bible studies, but most importantly it led to us finding a church to call home. During this journey I was led to branch out and start up my craft business, after a few months I have found my items that keep my order book full and it’s helped me to pay for Christmas this year. Christmas hasn’t been paid for with my paycheck in 8 years now (since our daughter was born). My husband also left the job he’s been at for several years, taking a few months off to stay home with us and help me get the business off the ground. Immediately after him leaving his job our marriage really shifted, he became more involved in our home and with the kids. He took a job doing what he loves and now we can’t imagine life any other way. It took a lot of praying, digging deep and soul searching, many tears, heart ache and more, but this past year I wouldn’t change for anything. I have my husband and best friend back, the man who I love to laugh with and spend every moment with. My kids are so happy and thriving, and they love going to Sunday School.  God doesn’t promise life will be easy, but he does promise he will be there with you through it all. As learned last week in the scripture writing, we are wonderfully made by a faithful God. We all have a special purpose, and we should be thankful under all circumstances.

This weeks Scripture Writing will be focused more on Moms.

After sending my children off to school in the morning, I usually take a few moments and enjoy a cup of coffee. Those with small children know what a luxury it is to actually enjoy a warm cup of coffee. Not one you’ve reheated several times already and it’s cold yet again. This morning as I sipped my coffee I began looking at my list of orders I currently have, supplies I need to order, and the cold medicine I need to take yet again. Now I’m not sure if it’s because my children have been taking turns being sick for weeks, that it hit me this time and I feel like I was hit by a bus, or that I’m just burnt out. I love my job, I truly do, but I feel like my passion is fading. Part of why I’ve loved my job is because it was something different every day, I could be creative. Here lately though I seem to have lost that spark. The weather changing has caused road blocks at every turn, I can’t paint or it’s too cold and things are setting up correctly. My computer isn’t acting right and my software continues to shut down every few minutes. It’s difficult to not become discouraged when it seems like everything is going wrong. It would be quite easy to just give up and move on. But instead I am going to take my medicine, jump in a hot shower to so I can breathe, then I am going to hand it all over to God because I know he will guide me in what I need to do. I’m going to work the next couple of hours while my kids are in school, this afternoon spend some time trying to repair my computer, and this weekend I will get all the things prepared that I need to so that I can have a productive and good work week next week. Instead of throwing in the towel, I’m going to find a way to renew my passion. I know it is in there, I just need to have faith.

So tell me, how do you keep from being burnt out?

You Are Precious

So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.-(Genesis 1:27) This scripture is one that most of us heard growing up. Taught often in bible school and I’m sure we’ve heard a few sermons on it as well. Even as a young girl this began the questioning of what my value is as a woman. What is my purpose? What is Gods big plan for me? Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man. “At last!” the man exclaimed. “This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called ‘woman’ because she was take from ‘man.'” This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united as one.-(Genesis 2:22-24) Now, I don’t know about you but for me this points out that women are valuable and have a great purpose. So often I hear that a woman’s purpose was for marriage, and while that is correct, that isn’t her sole purpose. She was made to serve her husband and God, but don’t forget that she was made also as someone to walk beside man in life’s battles. They are to watch each others back and support one another. You are a team, made for each other, both valuable. God has a wonderful purpose for us all. Even if you aren’t married there is still purpose for you.

God has a very high calling for women, we are very influential not only in our own home and family, but in other areas of the world as well. The way we carry ourselves impacts everyone we come in contact with. Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious than rubies.-(Proverbs 31:10) I know as a wife I have wondered can I do better? Am I being the wife my husband needs and God wants me to be? Am I that virtuous and capable wife? In all honesty, I know there are areas I can improve on. It can be overwhelming looking at the standards of a biblical wife such as Proverbs 31, she sounds like perfection. It would be really easy to close the book and say well I’m trying so that’s all that matters. When in actuality we could sit down and have a one on one with God, ask him for guidance.  Don’t look at it as admitting defeat, look at it as self-improvement, giving glory to God and doing his work.

For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed. He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.-(Titus 2:11-15) I don’t know about you but asking God to help me become a better biblical woman and living a life for him giving him the glory, helping show others how wonderful it is to walk with him, that seems like a pretty valuable calling. I will continue to ask God to guide me as a wife and mother, but also as a woman. Fully put my trust in him that he is walking with me on this journey, that he can use me for his purpose, to fill his calling. We as women have such an impact on those in our lives, lets ask God to help guide us so we live life with wisdom, righteousness and devotion to God.

May God bless you on your journey!

A New Direction

Here recently I felt the need to dig into what it truly means to be a biblical wife/mother. Everyday I’ve found new scripture, books, studies, ect. You name it I’ve come across it lately. One verse has really stuck out to me and felt like it was leading me in a new direction. These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children.- (Titus 2:4)  I do feel like we need to share experiences and help guide each other. Our culture today has turned being a submissive biblical wife into something it is not. So I have felt the need to share my journey into becoming a more biblical wife and mother. If I can help even one other woman feel more confident as a wife and mother then it is all worth it. So make sure you follow me so you can see my new post, and feel free to comment, ask questions, let me know how I can help you, anything.   So for today I will cut this short and begin planning a few more post.

God Bless and I’m so happy you’ve chosen to go on this journey with me!

New Seasons

This morning I’m sitting here with my coffee running over everything that needs to be done today. I have a full work load currently, plus volunteering at the school, and I have a long list of things that need to be done around the house. I would usually stress and end up with a migraine leading me to even more stress because I can’t get anything done. Thanks to colder weather moving in I’m also moving much slower because my illness and cold do not get along. Instead I’m doing what I can, while trying not to overdo it and leave myself unable to move. I’ve come to the point that my housework will always be there so there is no need to rush. With my work things can honestly go so fast anyways, I can’t speed it up any. So, I do what I can in the morning and if I can add to it a few hours later I do, if not I finish what I need to around the house. I think one thing that most of us can agree upon is that at different times in our lives we have sent up that prayer asking for guidance. What am I to do in this new season of life? Do I stay at this job?  Am I being a good Wife? Am I being a good parent? Am I on the track you have for me?

The new season in life my husband and I recently entered led me to ask these same questions.  It also led me to begin more concentrated studies over being a biblical woman and wife. I’m working on trying to turn those into a series of post. Then my plan is to dig deeper into raising children in society today. Neither of these tasks are ones that should be rushed through, I’m going through the bible, finding different bible studies and books on these. I will likely share bits and pieces along the way and post about topics when I’m led to post.  I strongly feel that you need to surround yourself with good mentors. Whether you are single, married, or have kids are you surrounding with others that show that good biblical character? Those people that you can just tell they walk with Christ? Lately I’ve done a lot of evaluating on myself, asking myself those same questions. It’s never fun to consider areas that you need to improve, and you will never be perfect, that’s just a fact. You can however ask for guidance, pray on it. Be open and communicate that you need help in these areas. Lean on your mentors, I’m sure they would be happy to speak with you and guide you. I know several ladies come to mind when I think of really good mentors, these ladies would also be there to speak with any time and help me grow spiritually. I know one area I need to work on is submission (I will dive into this topic at a different time), and boy is that a challenge for me. I’m a very stubborn person and one that naturally likes to take control. Now that our children are all in school, I work from home so I do have some flexibility in my schedule. After the kids are dropped off, I usually work first, begin cleaning, then sit down and have my study time. I journal a daily scripture plan every day, read the bible (my goal is the entire bible in 90 days), my daily devotionals, catch up for Sunday school in I need to, and read some of my current lifestyle book. Right now, I’m reading The Resolutions for Women, which I encourage all women to read, there is a men’s book also. I’m not saying you must spend hours every day studying the word, but make sure you set aside some time to spend with Christ. You will be amazed at the difference it will make in your life.

Before I close I want to leave you with this. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the lord is to be praised.- Proverbs 31:30

God Bless

Warrior….not worrier

This Saturday I have a craft show coming up. I signed up for this months ago thinking, I will have plenty of time to be prepared. You paint this picture in your head of what you think it should be like, only for the day to come and it’s nothing like you imagined. When I booked this show, my business was in the beginning stages. I had some down time because word hadn’t spread yet. A few weeks in I evaluated my business and realized what my sellers were and what I needed to put on the back burner for a while. My cups and t-shirts suddenly took off.  I have a list two pages long of orders almost constantly, as soon as I get caught up I’m contacted about more. I’ve begun doing them for large groups and businesses to advertise as well. So over the last few weeks I’ve extra items in here and there trying to at least be able to have a tables worth to bring to my show.

Do I have anywhere near what I wanted to for the show? No. Am I okay with that? At first, No. Sunday’s sermon really hit me though, it is not our place to worry about thing.  We are to turn it over to God and then move on. Those that know me know this isn’t an easy task for me. I have anxiety, and am a natural worrier. So I turned to my best friend of course, my husband, and he reminded me everything will be fine. Sure I only have half the stuff done I wanted to but what’s the worst that could happen? I could sell out and take custom orders instead? Use that time to continue handing out business cards or show other vendors how I could help advertise for them? Spread the word about my faith based business. In the end I have to remember that God put this business in my heart, and he will bring me through this. So today I will praise God for only having half of what I wanted there this weekend because I have been blessed with a business that stays busy. A business that has provided me the opportunity to be a stay at home wife and mother. I can work while my children are in school, on days I have to wait for things to dry I can go see my husband at his work for a few hours. My afternoons, weekends and holidays are free. I’m also helping to provide for my family.

It’s not always to turn our worries over to God, but we have to remember we are not alone. He will bring you through all of life’s storms if you just turn to him. We praise him in the good times and the bad, because he won’t ever leave our side.

God Bless!

As I sat down with my coffee this morning several ideas for this post were floating around in my head. I could write about marriage, children, my business, chaos of the world but instead the same word keeps standing out to me. I’ve heard it, read it and wrote it several times in the past week. Contentment…..now went you think of being content you can likely list a dozen or more things that you are or should be content with. Correct?

Are you content with where you are in life, or are you someone who is always working and rushing towards what is next? I’m sure we all know someone, maybe your own self, who has the constant focus of moving forward, advancing their career, getting a bigger house, a newer car, the list could go on. Are you rushing through life or are you actually enjoying the here and now? I know all to well how easy it is to be ready for a new phase in life. All three of my children just started school, I’ve been counting down the days for over a year for this to happen. When I should have been happy and content for my youngest two to be little just a little longer.

It’s time to slow down and learn to be content though. Live in the present, not the future. It won’t be easy, but you don’t have to do it alone. It’s time for you to put down the reigns and hand them over to God. Make a list of all the ways you have been blessed, and leave them somewhere you can see them when you need reminded.  We need to remember that we don’t get these moments back. Life is short, remember to live it well.
